A large number of women live at a busy pace these days. Many work on a full time basis. They take their children to day care centres and after-school activities. And a lot of women have the extra responsibility of being the household "auto care manager." While auto care, normally, has been considered "men's work", study conducted by the Car Care Council displays that women represent 60% of automotive service clients in North America, and ladies spend more than $300 billion every year on vehicle maintenance, repairs and used vehicles. To help keep women "on the go," women are strictly recommended to visit their local dealership during April Auto Care Month to make certain that their vehicle is secure to drive. Maintenance inspectors will show items to be serviced that can help a vehicle run better, last longer, preserve its value and provide optimum safety and security. Here are safety and maintenance tips that will help a car run at its best heading into the spring and summer travel seasons. Tyre Recommendations Blowouts: If your tyre blows out while you are driving, do not put on the brakes hard. Doing so can cause the motor vehicle to swerve in the direction of the blowout. Instead, gently apply the brakes to regain control and gradually head the motor vehicle to a secure area away from the road. Air pressure: To avoid under-inflation, it is recommended to have your tyres' air pressure checked, leastwise, once a month and before every long travel. Tyres must be checked when they are cold - that is, when they have run no more than one mile (1.6 km). Under-inflation commonly results in tyre blowouts. Tyres lose air through a process called permeation. Changes in outside temperature can affect the rate at which a tyre loses air. Normally, a tyre loses one pound to two pounds of pressure monthly, and even more in warm weather. Never decrease air pressure in hot tyres. It is normal for pressures to build up as a result of driving. According to the Rubber Manufacturers Association (RMA), every time the outside temperature drops by 10 degrees Fahrenheit, the air pressure in your tyres decreases 1-2 pounds per square inch. By following the tips that mentioned above you will be safe on the road. |
